epa STATEMENT

Elite Roads wishes to address recent media coverage referencing an EPA matter involving the company and its director, Deon Coote. As a business built on integrity and accountability over 15 years, this matter is not reflective of how Elite Roads operates, and we feel it is important to provide accurate context directly.

In September 2023, asphalt emulsion was deposited into a designated area within the company's Altona premises. The asphalt emulsion in question was material in the process of being recycled for reuse within the company's operations. The matter came to the EPA's attention, prompting inspections in October and November 2023 to assess the site for any evidence of contamination. Elite Roads subsequently engaged ATMA Environmental to conduct independent soil testing, and a report issued on 16 May 2024 confirmed the soil was clear of contamination.

The matter was heard at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 1 September 2025, where no conviction was recorded against Elite Roads Pty Ltd or Deon Coote. The court issued an adjourned undertaking with a requirement to be of good behaviour and a payment of $1,000 each to the Court Fund, which is one of the lowest sentencing outcomes available.

It is important to note that the incident occurred nearly three years ago, and following the matter, Elite Roads has reviewed and strengthened its internal procedures for the handling and recycling of materials on site, to ensure full compliance going forward. This matter is not reflective of the standards to which Elite Roads operates, nor of the conduct Deon Coote upholds as director of the company.

Elite Roads holds a genuine and longstanding commitment to both environmental responsibility and sustainability. The company has transitioned its fleet to hybrid vehicles, actively recycles and repurposes materials across its operations, and is currently implementing artificial intelligence across the business to improve operational accuracy and productivity, while meaningfully reducing waste and environmental impact. These are not recent initiatives, but part of a broader culture of responsibility that has been central to the business throughout its 15 years of operation.

Elite Roads remains committed to delivering high-quality work for its clients with integrity. For any enquiries regarding this matter, please contact Deon Coote directly at info@eliteroads.com.au.
