Part of Victoria's Big Build, Major Road Projects Victoria is planning and delivering dozens of major road projects across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. These projects include new roads, road widening, new bridges and major freeway upgrades, all designed to reduce congestion and travel times, improve safety and connect communities. Elite Roads is proud to be part of this program, delivering asphalt paving and road profiling across some of Victoria's most significant road infrastructure projects. Here are some of the major projects we have been proud to deliver.

VICTORIA'S BIG BUILd

North East Link

  • North East Link is the biggest ever investment in Melbourne's north-east, set to change the way people move around Melbourne. The 6.5km twin tunnel project will link Melbourne's freeway network, take 15,000 trucks off local roads a day and reduce travel times by up to 35 minutes. The project will also improve the Ring Road in Greensborough, overhaul the Eastern Freeway, build Melbourne's first dedicated busway and the North East Trail, as well as add more than 34km of walking and cycling paths. Elite Roads is proud to be a delivery partner on this landmark project, contributing asphalt paving, road profiling and 3D machine control works.

Peninsula Link

  • Peninsula Link is a 27km toll-free freeway connecting EastLink at Carrum Downs to the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at Mount Martha. Elite Roads is currently delivering major pavement rehabilitation works across 14km of the freeway, rebuilding the road from the ground up to ensure it can meet the demands of the growing population and provide a smoother, more enjoyable journey for all road users for decades to come. Works are delivered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with full lane closures and detours managed safely around live traffic.

  • Carrying over 205,000 vehicles per day, the West Gate Bridge is one of Melbourne's most critical pieces of road infrastructure. Elite Roads has delivered annual maintenance works on the bridge across two consecutive years, completing asphalt paving and road profiling works under strict timeline requirements with full lane closures in place. Most recently, works were carried out over the Christmas and New Year period across 800m of the bridge deck, delivered on time and to specification.

  • The Metro Tunnel is crucial for the future expansion of Victoria's rail network, enabling transport systems to grow as Melbourne's communities do. It creates a new end-to-end rail line from Sunbury in the west to Cranbourne and Pakenham in the south-east, with bigger and better trains, next generation signalling technology and five new stations. It will also untangle the City Loop so more trains can run more often across Melbourne, enabling 504,000 more passengers to use the rail system during each peak period. Elite Roads contributed asphalt paving and road profiling works across multiple station upgrades including Domain Road and ANZAC Station, where works involved the realignment of light rail services and road diversions during construction of the new station.

LEVEL CROSSING REMOVAL PROJECT

  • The Victorian Government has committed to removing 110 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2030, with 67 removed so far. The program is changing the way people live, work and travel, improving safety, reducing travel times and creating thousands of jobs. The construction of new train stations and new public spaces is also part of the project scope. Elite Roads contributed asphalt paving and road profiling works across multiple station upgrades through the Southern Program Alliance, including Cheltenham, Carrum, Mentone, Chelsea and Mooroolbark stations.

WESTERN ROADS UPGRADE

  • Completed in March 2021, the Western Roads Upgrade was the biggest ever investment in Melbourne's roads at the time, reducing congestion and improving travel times for locals across several major Victorian roads. Elite Roads delivered asphalt paving and road profiling works across multiple stages of the project including Palmers Road, Duncans Road Interchange and Ballan Road.

The elevated platforms presented significant logistical challenges, requiring our team to use cranes and a kibble to transport and place asphalt by hand to meet tight daily production targets. Our team completed the works within the required timeframe, to the highest standards of quality and safety, and without incident.
