Road Profiling
Elite Roads delivers advanced road profiling and pavement milling services across Melbourne and Victoria. Our profiling crews work on everything from major freeway rehabilitation to local council resurfacing, removing worn and damaged pavement layers with precision to prepare surfaces for new asphalt.
Road profiling is a critical first step in any resurfacing or rehabilitation project. Done properly, it extends the lifespan of road infrastructure, improves ride quality and ensures new asphalt bonds correctly to a sound base.
Understanding the profiling process
Road profiling, also known as cold milling or pavement milling, involves the precise mechanical removal of existing asphalt or concrete to prepare a surface for resurfacing or rehabilitation.
Our profiling machines are fitted with 180 high-strength tungsten carbide teeth on rotating drums, cutting through worn and damaged pavement layers to correct surface irregularities and remove compromised material. Our profilers cut to a depth of up to 320mm in a single continuous pass, which can run for kilometres at a consistent depth to client design, outperforming excavators and other conventional machinery.
Our fleet includes an industry-leading 3D road profiling machine that automates the removal process to client design with millimetre precision. This reduces the risk of over-milling, protects the underlying road structure and is particularly valuable on projects requiring intricate detail in urban and residential areas.
Benefits of HIGH-quality road profiling
LONGEVITY
Precise removal of only the necessary pavement means surfaces are properly prepared for new asphalt, extending the lifespan of road infrastructure significantly.
COST EFFICIENCY
Accurate profiling minimises material waste and reduces the likelihood of premature repairs, delivering better long-term value for councils and contractors.
SAFETY
Smooth, even road surfaces reduce the risk of accidents for vehicles and pedestrians, and correct drainage issues that can make roads hazardous.
SUSTAINABILITY
Our profiling techniques reduce debris and waste, and road profilings can be recycled back into new asphalt mixes, minimising raw material use and landfill waste.
From major freeway rehabilitation to local council resurfacing programmes, our profiling crews have worked on some of Victoria's most significant road infrastructure projects. Take a look at what we've been delivering:

FAQs
-
Road profiling offers significant advantages over conventional excavation, particularly in precision and efficiency. Where traditional excavation can be labour-intensive and imprecise, our profiling machines, including our 3D machine control technology, remove exact layers of pavement to client design, minimising damage to underlying structures and reducing material waste.
Profiling also generates less debris and causes minimal disruption to surrounding traffic and the environment, allowing for faster project completion. The result is a smoother, more consistent base for resurfacing that enhances the overall quality and longevity of the road surface.
-
Our profiling machines use 3D machine control technology to remove specific pavement layers with millimetre accuracy to client design. This is critical for maintaining structural integrity, achieving uniform surfaces and ensuring every project meets the required specifications.
Our operators are trained in the latest equipment and techniques, and this combination of advanced technology and skilled, experienced crews means every profiling project is completed to the highest standard, consistently and reliably.
